The Orthognathics MDO-R Distractor for rapid palatal expansion (RPE) is based on a smooth cylindrical distractor body combined with fixation
pins including a disc-like neck to transfer the pressure to the palatal bone.
For installation, the device requires only minimal stab
incisions in the palatal mucosa on both sides.
The design allows to start very narrow (15mm) and to become wide (up to 55mm) during
expansion without exchanging any parts of the device.
The device is secured with two transmucosal bone screws while the force is
transferred through the fixation pins.
